The Life without Christ is Crisis

- Br. Pradeep Lekshamanan, M.Div (M.Th)

Listen, how drastic the reality! There is crisis in the world and no one can get away from the reality. People, nowadays, unable to endure on their crisis and forced to commit suicide, or surrender to death. It’s a real fact that they are not enough courageous to face the crisis that come across in their life. They miserably fail in front of the evil influence of the crisis in their life.

But we can face the reality of crisis and win the victory over it by one only way, the way with Jesus Christ. In John 14:6, Jesus says “I am the way, the truth and the life”. With great assurance, it’s a truth that the Life without Christ is Crisis.

Who is Christ?

It’s not a wonder that almost all the people in this modern world know about Jesus Christ. He’s the one and only son of God, comes to our world to save us from our sin and death. The word “Christ” comes from “Christos”, a Greek word meaning “anointed.” It is the equivalent of the word Mashiach, or Messiah, in Hebrew. There is no other one given this title than our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

What is Crisis?

Crisis is defined as a stressful and dreadful time in a man’s life when he experiences a breakdown or disruption in his usual or normal daily activities or professional or family life. This situation creates terrible impact on him and enables him to commit suicide for ending the crisis. It’s the also crisis to those who’re living as his family members, relatives and friends.

In Christianity, the phrase "The Life without Christ is Crisis" signifies that the life lived without a relationship with Jesus Christ is inherently marked by a lack of true purpose, peace and hope in earthly and eternal life. It suggests a state of spiritual emptiness and potential for eternal or spiritual separation from God, despite potential worldly successes or fleeting pleasures.

Life without Christ is without hope, direction, ambition and aim. People run from pillars to posts now a days, looking for a way out of their crisis in life - pains and sorrows. They seek direction from astrologers, mind readers and yoga etc. But they have not been able to find a way out because Christ is the Way, which they miss and they are diverted to the wrong directions. Ultimately, they lost all hopes for great expectations and positive things in life, the gift of Jesus Christ.

A life without Christ is full of lies. We can see people today live fake lives to show who they are really not. They tell lies to cover up for their inadequacies.

A life without Christ is lifeless. Christ is the only One who breathed His life into a man to make him a living soul. People move around today, are dead in their spirit and souls, without hope. In John 6:35, Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”

A life without Christ is a life of hunger for peace, love, and joy. People seek these things in their partners, children, careers, and their belongings, but they are not satisfied because Christ, the real satisfaction, is absent in them.

A life without Christ is thirst. Christ satisfies the hunger and thirst of those who long for Him. The thirst of those without Him is unquenchable. They read books, seek knowledge yet the thirst is not quenched because only Christ is able to satisfy their thirst which is the missing element. In John 8:12, when Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

A Life without Christ is a bleak life of utter darkness. Imagine walking in the dark without any ray of light, what do you think will happen? You don’t know where you are going and you might stumble and fall down. No doubt, this way is how a life, shall be the life without Christ is crisis. They lack guidance and direction to things of life. They consult friends, family, counselors for finding ways but unfortunately, it ends up being blind leading by the blinds. In John 11:25, Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.”

A life without Christ has no hope of resurrection. Christ is the one and only authority to call life to resurrection. A life without Him has no hope to rise at the crisis as well as death in this present world. The reassurance to resurrect to another life, is only for those who have accepted Him into their lives. He has brought us by faith into this experience of God’s grace, in which we are living. In Romans 8:1, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”

A life without Christ is condemned to eternal death. It is not the word of a preacher that condemns a sinner, it is their rejection of Christ. In Ephesians 2:18, “For through Him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.” In Ephesians 3:12, “In Him and through faith in Him we may enter God’s presence with boldness and confidence.”

If there is no Christ there is no access to God, Jesus Christ is the One and Only access to God. To get access to God is to have Christ dwell in us. Let the verses of Revelation 22:17 speak to you, “The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ And let the one who hears say, ‘Come!’ Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.”

A life without Christ is bondage. Our spiritual freedom comes from abiding in Christ. Without Him, life is a bondage of sin and death. A life without Christ, there is no reality and no logic. There is no reason for anything. Everything is created by Christ. Romans 11:36 states, "For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen." This verse emphasizes that God is the origin, sustainer, and ultimate purpose of everything. It highlights that all things exist because of God's power and are ultimately directed towards His glory. Your next breath comes from Christ and it goes back to Christ. We must fully depend on Jesus, without Him we have nothing, but with Him we have everything. When you don’t have Christ you have no power over sin or Satan, and you don’t have true life.

The Savior of the World, Jesus Christ, wants to be your personal deliverer. Call on Him and ask for forgiveness of your sins. Accept Jesus as the Son of God who died for your sake. Take His outstretched hand and let Him show you the promises He has for you today and forever, to be in the life and world of Christ without Crisis.

Hermeneutics to Homiletics - There is a necessary place for laughter in life. Ecclesiastes 3:4 says that, “There’s a time to weep and a time to laugh.” There is a time for humor. Laughter and wit are both common graces granted to us so that we can enjoy the ironies and absurdities of life. There are many appropriate moments when laughter (and the humor that fuels it) can be a profound blessing, especially to those who are going through prolonged trials. “A cheerful heart is a good medicine.” (Proverbs 17:22). Therefore, even sermons can occasionally contain humor.
