Heatwave Grips J&K: Srinagar Scorches at 34.2°C, Jammu Touches 43.6°C

The ongoing heatwave continues to tighten its grip over Jammu and Kashmir, with temperatures surging well above normal across the region. On Thursday, Srinagar sizzled at 34.2°C — a staggering 6.2°C above the seasonal average, according to data from Kashmir Weather, reported by JKLandway.

Qazigund recorded a maximum of 33.9°C, exceeding the normal by 7.2°C, while Pahalgam registered 29.0°C, which is 5.3°C above average. Other parts of the Valley also experienced unusual heat: Kupwara recorded 33.0°C (4.8°C AN), Kokernag 33.2°C (7.0°C AN), and even Gulmarg, known for its cooler climate, witnessed a high of 24.8°C, which is 6.0°C above normal.

The Jammu division faced even more intense heat, with Jammu city baking at 43.6°C — 4.8°C higher than usual. Katra recorded 39.5°C, while Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah all crossed the 33°C mark, remaining considerably warmer than their seasonal averages.

Meanwhile, in the Union Territory of Ladakh, Leh experienced a maximum of 26.2°C and Kargil recorded 26.8°C.

With no immediate respite in sight, the Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued advisories urging residents to minimize outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, stay well-hydrated, and follow necessary precautions to protect themselves from heat-related illnesses.
